Filter out high values?

Hi, I am a PI newbie and am trying to figure out how to keep certain high values from being sent to the archive.  As an example, If I have a process point of float32 that normally has a value of 7.56, and occasionally will go to 9999.  I do not want to archive that 9999 value as this throws off my samples.  I have used the overrange before but instead of logging "Over Range" i would rather log nothing at all.  I also do not want to create a derived tag with an If statement as there are too many points that behave this way.  Any suggestions?  Thanks, BW

"A solution would be to change the point type to a float16. That point type will filter the data going into the archive based on the values of the span and zero attribute. You'll end up with Over Range and Under Range states in the archives for those spikes"
